Virginia SBDC Network Assists Over 13,000 in 2004

The SBDC Network of 29 local offices assisted more than 4,500 businesses and trained over 9,000 individuals in business management practices during 2004. The top areas of assistance were business planning, financing sources and marketing. Contact your local SBDC for counseling, training and information assistance to start or grow your company.



Virginia SBDC Contributes to Virginia�s Economy

According to an economic impact survey of the nationwide SBDC program, the Virginia SBDC makes an important contribution to the economic development of Virginia. The survey was sent to Virginia SBDC clients who met with an SBDC business counselor for five hours or more during 2003.

  • Virginia SBDC Clients� Sales Grow Faster

    Small businesses that received in-depth SBDC assistance experienced sales growth of 13.6% in 2003 � compared to 2.8% for Virginia businesses in general.
  • Virginia SBDC Clients Create 10 Times More Jobs

    Small businesses that received in-depth SBDC assistance in 2003 experienced 10 times the job growth of average Virginia businesses (10.8% compared to 1.1% for Virginia businesses in general)
  • Virginia SBDCs Generate More Revenue Than They Cost

    SBDC in-depth clients generate $1.66 in new tax revenues for every $1 spent on the SBDC program. The Virginia SBDC federal appropriation of $1.98 million generated an estimated $4.9 million in federal taxes.

The work of the SBDC network is best demonstrated by the successes of the small businesses that are helped by SBDC counselors. There are more than 50 success stories on the Virginia SBDC website profiling how the SBDC worked with specific companies helping them to access capital, expand into new markets, buy established businesses and start new companies.



Call for Nominations - Small Business Veteran of the Year

The Virginia SBDC Network is proud to work with and assist veteran business owners. To demonstrate our commitment to the success of veteran entrepreneurs, the Virginia Small Business Veteran of the Year Award was established in 2001. The Virginia SBDC network is the most extensive business development and assistance program in the Commonwealth. There are 29 local SBDCs across Virginia providing professional business counseling, training, and information resources to help grow and strengthen Virginia businesses. The network is a partnership between the U.S. Small Business Administration, Mason Enterprise Center of George Mason University, and local sponsors including universities, community colleges, chambers of commerce, municipalities, economic development organizations, and private companies.
