This course demonstrates helpful tips and tricks for CURRENT USERS of QuickBooks Online  (includes the Essentials, Plus, or Advanced plans).

You will come away from the class armed with helpful new techniques for every day practical uses of the platform!


Pre-requisite: Using QuickBooks Online (Essentials, Plus, or Advanced) in your business for at least one month is required.
PLEASE NOTE: QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Self Employed will not be covered in this course.

Required equipment: To be able to view the Zoom web conference and instructor’s screen share of the QBO sample company, you may use any Zoom compatible device. If you would like to follow along during the class in your own QBO company, you will need a Laptop or Desktop computer (Windows or Mac with the minimum operating system requirement requirements*).

Computer requirements:

  • Windows PC: Windows 7 or newer, Intel Core i5 or comparable AMD processor with at least 4 GB of RAM
  • Mac: OS X 10.9 or newer

  • Internet connection: 5 Mbps or higher

  • Internet browser: Google Chrome is recommended for optimal operation

Ellen Martin, BS—Business Management, MS—Nonprofit Management and Philanthropy, Central Virginia SBDC Business Advisor, and Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor--Online Advanced, will lead this course. Ellen's background meshes multi-faceted for-profit and not-for-profit business experience. She employs holistic and strategic thinking to advance organizational missions. Her 25-year career has encompassed private sector, higher education, voluntary sector, start-up, and entrepreneurial pursuits. Ellen is founder and Principal of Octavo LLC, a small business bookkeeping and payroll company.

Octavo LLC is a woman-owned consulting business based in Charlottesville, Virginia; though the business’s service range extends far beyond central Virginia. The company serves both not-for-profit and for-profit small business entities. Octavo identifies and addresses—through best practices—points of stagnation, gaps in infrastructure, and strategic and operational inefficiencies as represented in a company’s books. The company offers QuickBooks Online bookkeeping transition, setup, and cleanup, and ongoing bookkeeping and payroll services.
