Thu 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM

The world’s buyers are beyond America’s border. As a point of fact, 95 percent of the world’s buyers exist outside the US borders. Natural trading partners want American goods and the small and medium sized businesses often find growth potential by tapping into these markets. However, there are rules and procedures that American exporters must follow in order to properly enter these markets. They include correctly classifying the product to be sold and shipped, know your customer, product markings, international contract language, reporting mechanisms and knowing whether the product needs licenses to ship. In this morning long program, GMU’s SBDC will provide a program geared to the SME technology market to explain the essentials to export compliance. At the conclusion, the participants will have a greater understanding of the steps necessary to successfully establish export compliance programs in their companies. The schedule is as follows: Exporters will have a clearer understanding of the elements of a functioning compliance program, their obligations under the law and specifically understand elements of the exporting of technology. The program will be completed with a case study discussing some of the issues and solutions surrounding export compliance. Agenda 8:30AM - What is export compliance: an overview 9:00 AM - Compliance - Key Elements 11:00 AM - Break 11:15 AM - Exporting Technology - Critical considerations 12:00 PM - Case Study 12:30 PM – Networking lunch 1:30 PM - Conclusion
