Topic: Business Basics

It's a Startup Toolbox: Marathon! Launch Your Business with Confidence! Are you ready to turn your business idea into reality but unsure where to begin? The Startup Toolbox series is designed to guide aspiring entrepreneurs through the essential steps of launching a successful business. Whether you're still shaping your concept or already have customers waiting, this class will equip you with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to move forward.

In this multi-part workshop, you'll learn:

  • Get Started: Define your business concept, create a solid business plan, and understand which licenses and permits you really need. Discover local and national resources that can help you launch your venture.
  • Find Your First Location: Learn how to choose the right location for your business—whether it's a retail shop, studio, restaurant, or pop-up. We’ll cover how to evaluate foot traffic, lease terms, zoning laws, and neighborhood demographics to avoid common pitfalls and make a smart investment.
  • Finding Funding: Explore the basics of small business financing, including what banks expect from you and what you should expect from them. Learn about traditional loans, alternative funding sources, and how to choose the right financing option for your goals.
  • One Page Business Plan: You have an idea for a business but aren’t sure how or why to start a Business Plan? This is the class for you! Learn to use the Business Model Canvas to visualize and access your business idea. This helpful tool is a one-page document containing sections that represent different fundamental elements of a business. The BMC provides a quick overview of the business and clarifies how different parts of the business fit together. Participants will receive access to the StartUp Toolbox and the Business Model Canvas.

Each session includes expert guidance, practical tools, and a Q&A to help you apply what you’ve learned to your unique business idea. Your fee covers lunch from a local Altavista restaurant. Participants will receive an email to order and pay for lunch at a later date. Those who complete at least two of four titles will have met the requirement to apply for the Start Small Campbell Grant.

Fee: $ 15.00

You will be emailed a payment and order form for lunch.
