Craft beverage production is often a labor of love, with owners directly involved in every facet of the business. However, as companies mature, organizational processes grow more complex, testing the founders’ capacity. Leaders at the helm of expanding companies need to learn how to shift from working in the business to working on the business.
In this webinar, Virginia SBDC Craft Beverage Assistance Manager Chris Van Orden will speak with Catoctin Creek Distilling Company Founder and General Manager Scott Harris about his experience growing the distillery from a small family business to a global brand.
Speaker: Scott Harris - After a twenty-year career in telecommunication systems and government IT solutions, Scott Harris traded it all in for the chance to own and run his own distillery, Catoctin Creek Distilling Company, with his wife, Becky. In, 2011, Scott was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce, and in both 2012 and 2020, Catoctin Creek was awarded Small Business of the Year. In addition to serving as Catoctin Creek’s General Manager, Scott currently sits on the Craft Distiller Advisory Board for DISCUS, and is an emeritus member of the board of directors for the Virginia Distillers Association. He was also appointed to the Virginia Spirits Board by the governor of Virginia, overseeing the marketing of Virginia spirits.
