Topic: Managing a Business

Despite its reputation as a “fun” industry, making, selling, and serving alcohol can take its toll on one’s mental health. Long, odd hours; demanding and sometimes rude patrons; financial headwinds. The many stresses of the job can be harmful to employees and, by extension, the company.

In this webinar, Craft Beverage Assistance Manager Chris Van Orden will ask Amber Smith – therapist, F&B veteran, and founder of Mise en Place Mental Health – about the ways in which mental health is overlooked in the industry and how companies can support both their people and their balance sheet by employing some basic strategies.

Speaker: Amber Smith is the founder of Mise en Place Mental Health and a Supervisee in Social Work. Before becoming a therapist, she spent years as a Restaurant Manager for top-tier establishments, leading teams and mastering logistics in high-pressure environments. She later earned her Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, and previously founded an advocacy group for food workers. Now she helps service workers and professionals manage anxiety and navigate life transitions, drawing on her hospitality background and a "mise en place" philosophy: mental wellness takes intentional preparation.

A confirmation email with the Zoom login information will be sent after registration - a day before before the event - please be on the lookout for it.
