Thai Restaurant

In the summer of 2002, a team of experienced restaurant managers contacted the SBDC because they wanted to start a restaurant that authentically represented small boutique eateries in their native Thailand. The pair had extensive experience managing restaurants in Bangkok. Now they were ready to branch out into the American market.

To help the restaurant get underway, the SBDC helped the clients develop a business plan, assisted with SBA applications, guided them through the legal procedures necessary to start their business, including obtaining a business license, permits, and other necessary requirements. The SBDC Director introduced the owners to local lenders, which directly led to a loan approval and start up financing through Southern Financial Bank.

In late March 2003, the restaurant opened. The new establishment offers a 60-seat interior, complete with imported Thai decorations and paintings and has been arranged to maximize customer comfort and privacy. The menu is varied and offers a variety of vegetarian, regional, and fusion dishes. The restaurant has opened to very positive reviews. A local restaurant forum called the restaurant "excellent", "the best Thai food around" and "a great place for a romantic evening or a first date".

Recently the SBDC has helped the owners make contacts with local hiring resources within local and state agencies. The restaurant will probably employ a staff of about 10 when it reaches its full capacity.
