Child Care Center Fills a Community Need

Ms. Patricia Feggins had a dream of opening a child day care center. Having a very successful management career with "McDonalds", she decided to purchase a vacant building in Brodnax, Virginia. She purchased the building and started having the building renovated. Patricia attended several seminars conducted by the Longwood Small Business Development Center, South Boston Branch in South Hill and South Boston, Virginia. After the first seminar, she asked how the SBDC could help her in reaching her dream. Larry Harris, Branch Manger of the Longwood SBDC visited her facility and they discussed writing a business plan. The Longwood SBDC, South Boston Branch assisted Ms. Feggins with her business plan. Ms. Feggins decided to invest $160,000 of her personal cash resources into her venture.

On April 6, 2004 the State Department of Social Services granted Patricia her license to operate a child day care center. "Patricia’s Child Day Care Center" had their Grand Opening on May 7, 2004 and they now have 36 children enrolled. The Mayor of Brodnax welcomed "Patricia’s Child Day Care Center" to the community. Ms. Feggins recognized Virginia Community Bank and the Longwood Small Business Development Center for helping make her dream a reality. "Patricia’s Child Day Care Center" is located at 434 Piney Pond Road, Brodnax, Virginia.
