With the large presence of military; including both active and retired veterans located throughout Virginia, the Virginia Small Business Development Centers have placed a special emphasis on acknowledging veteran owned businesses.

The Virginia SBDC Network does that through three primary channels.

Small Business Veteran of the Year Award
The VSBDC created the Small Business Veteran of the Year Award in 2001 to recognize the accomplishments of this special group of Virginia entrepreneurs that have given their time and dedication to not only their business, but to their community and country.

    VetBizResourceCenter.com
VetBizResourceCenter.com was developed to help veterans, Reservists, and National Guardsmen, who are also small business owners, find support for their entrepreneurship. The site has been designed to deliver education and information in the easy-to-access format of videos, testimonials, and a large array of printable materials. Each of the four modules has a 3-to-5-minute tutorial about the topic, with “case studies” interspersed.

    Specialized Programs Dedicated to Veterans
In 2010 the Virginia SBDC piloted an executive roundtable program for veteran-owned small business (VOSBs), including service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSDs). Based on the huge success of this pilot a manual was developed in the hopes of launching many more executive roundtables throughout the state.

In 2012 the Virginia SBDC will be rolling out a Buy Vet program. Our goal is to help business differentiate and market themselves as Veteran owned.
